Sharing His Love by Feeding His Sheep
By Ruth Lopez
My name is René. I’m married and have three children. My father taught me to be a baker, and I have my own bakery. On the surface, it seemed like I had a good life. I was certainly convinced that I was a good person and that I knew how to make good decisions for myself and my family.
But living in a fast-paced world infested with consumerism and crime, I felt like life was not worth living. I began to suffer terrible bouts of anxiety and depression. I could hardly sleep. I even started battling suicidal thoughts. I was at rock bottom! Then, on September 14, 2017, a mutual friend introduced me to Manuel López, Pastor of Iglesia Dios es Amor (God is Love Church) and Director of Source of Light Ministries in Mexico. Pastor Manuel spent that afternoon with me, and he has invested a lot of time in my family since then, meeting with us regularly. He helped me see that I was a lost sheep who needed the Good Shepherd.
Soon, my family and I started attending God is Love Church regularly. Pastor Manuel encouraged me to study the Source of Light Bible course “Un País que se llama el Cielo” (A Country Called Heaven). Once I started the lessons, I couldn’t stop until I completed them.
As I studied the Source of Light lessons, and met with Pastor Manuel, I realized that I needed to trust Jesus as my personal Savior. My life was transformed immediately! I no longer had suicidal thoughts. I could sleep again!
From the beginning, I had a strong desire to be at church, praising the Lord for having saved me. I started taking my family, and soon my wife and son also understood that Jesus died for our sins, and they also believed. Our little girls are still quite small, but they love being at church. Even my mom has started coming to church regularly with us, and my dad comes occasionally, too.
My thirst for learning God’s Word keeps growing. So much so, that I am now going to night school at the local Bible seminary. What a blessing it is to study the Word!
Our lives need to reflect God’s love by feeding His sheep. That is why we want to serve the Lord by sharing His love with His sheep. I’m thankful for the doors the Lord has opened for me, not only to share with my family, but also with others who (like me) feel their lives have no meaning. I’m using the Source of Light lessons with young men at a drug rehabilitation center, and I count it a joy to be able to study with them on a weekly basis and see their lives transformed. Two years in a row I’ve also had the opportunity to work with the young people who come to our church’s VBS program for a week in July.
I’m no longer in the depths of despair and depression, nor do I have thoughts of suicide. Quite the opposite, I’m thankful for the opportunity to show my love for the Lord by feeding His sheep, at home, at church, and at the rehab center. Thank you for providing the tools to share effectively through the lessons.
